The Windlestraw restaurant offers the finest dining experience in the Tweed Valley.

Menus can be tailored to your choice and children under 10 can have high tea between 5.00 - 6.00pm. We only allow children under 10 in the restaurant when you have exclusive use of the house.

About our food.

We source the finest ingredients from local suppliers. Beef and Lamb is sourced from local farms in The Borders. Fish and shellfish are delivered to the door from Eyemouth and organic vegetables and mushrooms are supplied by Ken Fenton of Wild Tastes. Burnside Farm Foods supply us with free range poultry. New addition to our menus this year is organic rose veal, bred in the Borders at Peelham Farm, Foulden. Visits to the local Farmers Markets keep the kitchen in supply with all the seasonal produce, including farmhouse cheeses and vegetables. The gardens and greenhouse at Windlestraw also keep the kitchen supplied with herbs and salad leaves. Our philosophy is to source the finest ingredients available from the fantastic selection that Scotland’s larder has to offer.

We have been involved in the hotel business for our entire career, with ten years in Peeblesshire in the early eighties, but the largest part being when we owned an award winning country inn for 17 years, which won The Macallan Hotel of the Year, Best Eating Place in The Scottish Borders three times and the A A Guide “Dining Pub of The Year”.

Our dream was always to own a house in The Borders in a beautiful setting, which we could open to guests, but which would also be our home.

After what seemed like years of searching, we have finally found what we were looking for and we are sure you will agree that Windlestraw Lodge is in an unrivalled setting, yet so close to everything that The Borders has to offer, and which we are delighted to say brings us back to Peeblesshire. Alan’s enthusiasm for the finest ingredients in his cooking and the marvellous range of products that are available in this area, enable him to create the wonderful food for which he has gained so many awards and a following of customers from far and wide. The combination of food, comfort and ambience make Windlestraw Lodge a very special place to visit and we look forward to welcoming you here soon.
